Suspect arrested after assault at grocery store

From the Friendswood Police Department:
At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 05, 2009, Friendswood police officers were dispatched to the Kroger store located in the 3100 block of FM 528 to investigate the report of a man armed with a knife.
Upon arrival, a Friendswood police officer was alerted by store management personnel to a male suspect in the parking lot who was armed with a knife and had threatened a store employee.
The officer approached the suspect who was loading items into his vehicle. The suspect fled from the officer on foot along a sidewalk in the Kroger shopping area. After a brief foot chase, the suspect was subdued by the officer and taken into custody.
A search of the area immediately adjacent to where the confrontation occurred with the officer yielded the knife that was used during the incident inside the Kroger store.
Police officials were able to determine that the suspect approached a mother and her young daughter who were shopping in the produce section of the store. The suspect approached the two females and slapped the adult female and then made a threatening gesture to slap the juvenile female. The mother confronted the suspect and store personnel immediately came to her aid. At that time, the suspect brandished a knife and threatened a store manager with the knife.
Sanjeev Krishan, 43, of Webster is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. At this time his bond has not been set. He is currently being held at the Friendswood City Jail pending transfer to the Harris County Jail.
