El Lago to spend up to $50,000 on shade

El Lago plans this week to order up to $50,000 in fabric structures that will provide shade around the city's new squirting, fountain-like splash pad.
City Secretary Ann Vernon said City Council approved funding to purchase the items during its meeting last week. The city is looking at buying nine of the structures, which are attached to metal poles that are installed in the ground, she said.
They will be placed around the city's splash pad, construction of which started this week at the city's El Lago Swim and Racquet Club and should be finished by the end of next month, Vernon said. If the structures are ordered this week, the city would like to have them installed by early August, she said.
That way people watching their kids play have some place in the shade to sit," Vernon said.
Currently, the city has some temporary structures at the swim and racquet club like tents that provide shade, Vernon said.
These structures would be a more permanent solution," she said.
