Weird crime alert: attempted theft of tailgate

Someone apparently had second thoughts about stealing a pickup truck's tailgate in League City over the weekend.
League City Police Sgt. Bruce Whitten said the attempted theft occurred between Saturday night at a house in the 1000 block of Summer Cape Circle.
The tailgate was taken off a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck but was found left in the house's front yard.
Police were able to retrieve fingerprints from the tailgate, Whitten said. It is valued at $250.
The suspects either got scared off or something happened," Whitten said.
Whitten said he couldn't recall the last time that League City police had a reported tailgate theft.
We used to get them all the time," he said. It used to be fairly common and then apparently the market for them dried up. We just haven't seen too many lately. This is the first one I've seen in a while."
