Age raised for kids to swim without adult
Clear Lake Shores has raised the age for a child to swim at the city's pool without an adult from 10 to 12 years old.
City Council approved the change for the pool, located in Jarboe Bayou Park, last week at the request of city staff, City Administrator/Police Chief Paul Shelley said.
The problem was that the lifeguards were saying that some of the 10-year-olds that were coming in really needed supervision," Shelley said.
The pool only has lifeguards in the summer, Shelley said. To swim when a lifeguard is not on duty, those under the age of 18 must be supervised by at two people who are at least 21 years old, said Christy Stroup, the city's court administrator, who oversees the city's pool.
