New resident finds 10 cypress trees uprooted
A man moving in to a house in League City recently received a rude welcome.
The 46-year-old man had a brass backflow valve for a sprinkler system stolen out of his backyard on June 5 and had 10 newly planted cypress trees pushed over between 4 p.m. June 13 and 10 a.m. June 14 in the 1300 block of Porta Rosa Lane, League City Police Lt. Bruce Whitten said. Several of the wooden stakes holding up the trees were broken, he said.
Whitten said the stolen valve is the first one that he recalls being taken since a rash of thefts over two nights several months ago. The uprooting of the trees appears to be vandalism, he said.
It's hard to tell why because the guy wasn't moved in the house yet," Whitten said. He was just starting to move in to it. You wouldn't think anybody had any beef against him. Rarely do we have people going through pushing trees over."
