Yacht owner finds intruder asleep on board
A South Shore Harbour yacht owner discovered an intruder sleeping on his boat this week.
League City Police Sgt. John Jordan said the incident occurred about 6:55 a.m. Wednesday on a 38-foot yacht at South Shore Harbour Marina, 2551 South Shore Blvd.
League City Police Sgt. John Jordan said the yacht's 48-year-old owner arrived about 6:45 a.m. to meet a mechanic and observed a silver Nissan 350Z parked near the pier.
Suspecting the car belonged to his stepdaughter's 20-year-old ex-boyfriend, the yacht owner took a photo of the car and then boarded his yacht, where he noticed footprints and empty beer cans, Jordan said.
The yacht owner thought both were odd because he had just cleaned the yacht after taking it on Memorial Day.
When he entered the yacht's cabin, he found his stepdaughter's ex-boyfriend asleep, Jordan said.
Startled, the sleeping man swung his arm towards the yacht's owner, who defended himself by striking the man in the face, Jordan said.
The ex-boyfriend then shoved the man into the entertainment center before running out of the yacht and down the pier, Jordan said. The yacht's owner tried to detain him, but the suspect broke away and left in his car.
Police have requested a warrant for the ex-boyfriend, who likely faces a burglary charge, Jordan said.
