Who has Clear Lake's best doughnuts?
I love Facebook. You can learn something new everyday! Today, I learned that it is National Doughnut Day. According to my friend, it would be "unAmerican" to not go out and eat a doughnut today.
That got me thinking about the best donuts in Clear Lake. First of all, I need to state that I am trying to develop healthier eating habits. But there is just something about doughnuts. I guess you could say that I am a donut....well...nut.
There are a few places that my kids and I like to frequent.
Riley's doughnuts on Bay Area and FM 528 boasts the best iced doughnuts in my kids' opinion. We have tried chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, cherry and maple amongst the three of us, and we all agree that they have just the right amount of icing.
The best donut holes are at Bonnie's doughnuts on FM 518 in League City. My kids are impressed by the fact that the "holes" are iced and sprinkled just as the regular doughnuts are. The service here is great too. They are probably the friendliest donut shop workers we have encountered.
Hands down, the best glazed donut goes to Shipley's-any Shipley's. Most of the time the donuts are still warm. They almost literally melt in your mouth. Lucky for us, you can find Shipley's in Nassau Bay, Seabrook, League City, Friendswood and Clear Lake. Of these, I like the original area Shipley's in League City. I like the old oaks draping across the road and I like that the same couple has run it for as long as I can remember. Last summer, I blogged about how much fun it is to hang out there in the mornings and listen to the stories of the regulars. It feels like a step back in time.
By the way, did you notice that I alternated "donut" and "doughnut" throughout this blog? I can't decide which spelling I like better.
Any other donut shops out there that we need to try? Post below.
