License plates go missing in League City
Next time you get in your car, you might want to make sure you still have a license plate.
There have been some license-plate thefts in League City recently, and these plates can end up on cars used in crimes.
One plate was taken between 11 p.m. Sunday and 4:54 p.m. Monday in the 500 block of Davis Road.
Another was stolen between 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 9:36 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of Blossomwood Drive.
There was also one taken between 4 p.m. May 11 and 4 p.m. May 16 in the 1300 block of Coryell St.
League City Police Lt. Bruce Whitten said a vehicle pulled over last month by law enforcement agency in Harris County was also found to have a stolen license plate from League City. The vehicle's driver was arrested and was a suspect in vehicle-related thefts, he said.
It looked the guy had stole some plates off cars and was committing burglaries out of that car," Whitten said. He was doing it to probably conceal his identity by switching plates and going and doing a crime so if anybody saw the car it wouldn't come back on him."
If a vehicle's license plate is stolen, the owner should report it immediately to police, Whitten said.
That way if someone did actually steal it and they were using it to commit offenses, they can get a new set of plates and the police won't come knocking on their door in reference to their license plate being seen at the scene of a crime," he said.
