Clear Lake grad Westby contributes to Tulane victory
Clear Lake High School graduate Ashley Westby scored five points in Tulane University's 69-65 win over conference rival Rice University Thursday, Jan. 17, at Tudor Fieldhouse in Houston, the Tulane website reported.
The Tulane junior center also recorded two rebounds, a steal and one block for the Green Wave, who improved to 13-1 on the season and 2-1 in the C-USA.
Tulane's next game is 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at home against Memphis.
Westby is a 2010 graduate of Clear Lake High School where she was a two-year letter winner on the basketball court for coach Angela Beck. During her two seasons (2008-09 and 2009-10) on the varsity team at Clear Lake Westby helped the Falcons go 46-21 overall and 23-5 in District 24-5A play while advancing to the playoffs each season. As a senior Westby was named the district's offensive player of the year and a first-team all-district honoree after averaging 13.4 points per game. Westby averaged 14 points and 16 rebounds per contest as a junior to collect second-team all-district accolades. In addition to basketball she played soccer at Clear Lake. Born June 8 1992 the daughter of Tim and Christine Westby she is majoring in business management at Tulane. Westby is from Houston.
