23 Galveston runners complete Chevron Houston Marathon
Twenty-three Galveston athletes completed the Chevron Houston Marathon on Sunday, Jan. 13 in Houston.
The runners from Galveston and their finishing times were Aaron Gray, 24, 2:58:25; Jimmy Clore, 39, 3:31:56; Stephen Jones, 43, 3:35:34; Mark Girouard, 56, 3:38:04; Kelly Carmichael, 50, 3:43:25; Paul Cowart, 30, 3:51:44; Norvel Alviza, 42, 3:54:16; Jody Kleinfelter, 41, 3:54:36; John McKenna, 56, 3:58:37; Jack Torregrossa, 56, 4:12:20; Ken Goode, 54, 4:28:28; Laura Larue, 30, 4:35:12; Kari Henry, 48, 4:42:55; James Hunderup, 44, 4:52:06; Dan Dick, 64, 4:57:43; Michael Wisner, 42, 4:57:43; Jaime Castro, 49, 4:57:44; John Fertitta, 50, 5:00:28; Lucido Ponce, 29, 5:07:36; Jennifer Sajak, 34, 5:07:36; William Reihle, 62, 5:41:55; Cat Nowinski, 34, 5:53:58; and David Sanderson, 62, 5:57:05.
Race organizers said 6,676 runners finished the 26.2-mile race, which began at Minute Maid Park and ended at George R. Brown Convention Center.
Bazu Worku, of Ethiopia, was the men's overall winner with a finishing time of 2:10:17, while Merima Mohammed, also of Ethiopia, was the winner in the women's category with a time of 2:23:37.
