Galveston County Master Gardeners event schedule

The Galveston County Master Gardeners has announced its calendar of events, which are as follows:

Fruit and Citrus Tree Seminar and Sale
8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2
Wayne Johnson Community Center, 4102 Main St., La Marque
Heidi Sheesley, of TreeSearch Farms, will provide a presentation discussing plant varieties that will be available in the sale. A variety of fruit and citrus trees adapted to Gulf Coast growing will be offered at the sale. Plant sale starts at 9 a.m.

Minimize Tomato Stress Factors to Maximize Yields
9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9
Galveston County AgriLife Extension Office, 4102 Main St., La Marque
Presented by master gardener Sam Scarcella. A variety of stress factors can decrease tomato yields. The presentation will provide an overview of stress factors and how to minimize their affect.

Kitchen Gardening
1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9
Galveston County AgriLife Extension Office, 4102 Main St., La Marque
Master gardener Mary Demeny will discuss vegetable gardening in the backyard and on a smaller scale.

Hummingbirds: The Fluttering Jewels in our Garden
9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16
Galveston County AgriLife Extension Office, 4102 Main St., La Marque
Presented by master gardener Elayne Kouzounis, who will discuss everything hummingbird.

Honey Bees Around the Garden
1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16
Galveston County AgriLife Extension Office, 4102 Main St., La Marque
Master gardeners Stewart McAdoo and Robert Marshall will discuss the history, types, social life and hive structure of honey bees. Included in the program will be an overview of residential honey-bee keeping.
