Clear Lake athletes in action: Women's basketball

The following women's basketball players, all with Clear Lake high school ties, have scheduled action this week:

Jasmine Beverly, California Baptist University
Position: Forward

About Beverly: Beverly is a senior forward for California Baptist University in Riverside, Calif. She is a 2009 graduate of Clear Lake High School, where she played three years on the varsity squad. Beverly is from Houston and is the daughter of Chester Beverly and Veronica Beard.

Nyha Carter, Sam Houston State University
High school: Clear Creek High School
This week: Thursday, Dec. 20, at University at Albany
About Carter: Carter, a 5-foot-10 junior forward for Sam Houston State University, is a 2010 graduate of Clear Creek High School. The League City native was a three-time All-District 24-5A selection during high school and was named the district's Defensive Player of the Year her sophomore and junior years.

Kiara Redmon, Bethune-Cookman University
Position: Guard

About Redmon: Redmon, a 5-foot-9 junior guard for Bethune-Cookman University, is a 2010 graduate of Clear Brook High School. She earned all-district honors her junior and senior years. She is the daughter of George and Shari Redmon and is a biology major.

Ashley Westby, Tulane University
High School: Clear Lake High School

About Westby: Westby is a 2010 graduate of Clear Lake High School where she was a two-year letterwinner on the basketball court for coach Angela Beck. During her two seasons (2008-09 and 2009-10) on the varsity team at Clear Lake Westby she helped the Falcons go 46-21 overall and 23-5 in District 24-5A play while advancing to the playoffs each season. As a senior Westby was named the district's offensive player of the year and a first-team all-district honoree after averaging 13.4 points per game. Westby averaged 14 points and 16 rebounds per contest as a junior to collect second-team all-district accolades. In addition to basketball she played soccer at Clear Lake. Born June 8, 1992 the daughter of Tim and Christine Westby, she is majoring in business management at Tulane. Westby is from Houston.
