Local authors to read from works at Book Bash
A Book Bash will be held Saturday, Dec. 15 at the G. Lee Gallery in Galveston.
The event will run from noon-5 p.m.
According to a press release from G. Lee Gallery, the event features local area authors reading from their books.
Tickets are not required, and the event is free.

UMC planning four services for Christmas Eve
The League City United Methodist Church will hold its Christmas Eve worship services on Monday, Dec. 24.
The church will have four worship services scheduled for 10 a.m. (Spirit of Christmas), 5 p.m. (family), 7 p.m. (traditional) and 9 p.m. (contemporary). The 10 a.m. service is designed to accommodate people who cannot get out at night or feel comfortable in a crowd.

Nassau Bay Garden Club decorates arbor
Nassau Bay Garden Club held a holiday event for the annual decoration of Howard L. Ward Park’s Tranquility Arbor.
According to a Nassau Bay Garden Club press release, “Members and spouses of the Nassau Bay Garden Club gathered to decorate the arbor with holiday lights and angels. Tranquility Arbor, on the corner of Martinique Drive and Upper Bay Road in Nassau Bay, is the first garden area planted by the club in 1978. A couple of years later, the arbor was built and the club began decorating it for the winter holidays.”

Youth singers to visit Clear Lake Presbyterian
The Bay Area Youth Singers will perform a holiday concert at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, in the sanctuary of Clear Lake Presbyterian Church.
The 40-voice choir of children ages 8 to 16 will present the program titled “Sing and Celebrate,” a mix of sacred and secular Christmas selections with organ, piano and flute accompaniment, according to a church release.
The one-hour concert will also feature a guest performance by the South Houston High School A Cappella Choir accompanied by student harpist Savannah Lee.
Both the concert and apprentice choirs of the Bay Area Youth Singers will perform, led by Brenda Varvoutis Renander and Mike Tuneberg. Mendy Alford will serve as accompanist with Varvoutis and Cora Bigwood adding flute obbligatos.
Clear Lake Presbyterian Church is at 1511 El Dorado, Houston.
Tickets are $5 for adults, and children and students are free.

Volunteer deputy registrar training returns in 2013
The Galveston County Tax Assessor’s Office has announced that volunteer deputy registrar training will resume in January.
Volunteer deputy registrars work in partnership with county voter registrars across the state, assisting citizens wishing to register to vote. All VDR certifications end in December of even numbered years, thus training for November and December has been suspended.
The next class is set for 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18. Classes last one hour. VDR training is conducted each month on the third Friday at the Commissioners Courtroom, 722 Moody, Galveston. Registration is not required.

Temple Beth Tikvah will hold its Hanukkah celebration at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14.
