Nursing home resident wanders off
NEWS RELEASE FROM FRIENDSWOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Friendswood police are looking into the report of a resident who wandered away from the Alzheimer's unit of a local nursing home.
At approximately 1:07 p.m. Thursday, an officer observed a 52 year old man walking in the 800 block of S. Friendswood Drive. The officer stopped to speak with the man and he appeared to be confused. He was able to tell officers that he lived on Cottonwood Drive, but when officers checked the address the home was vacant. Speaking with neighbors, officers learned that the man had recently been admitted to Emeritus, 1310 S. Friendswood Drive.
Officers returned the man to the assisted living facility and found that the members of the staff were searching the area for the man. No one from the facility had contacted police or emergency services, said police officials. The man was not harmed and it is not immediately known how long he had been missing.
In September, Friendswood Police and other emergency responders searched for almost an hour before finding a 72-year old woman who had wandered away from the same facility.
The incidents have been referred to the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services.
