Boys hoop teams set to open playoffs

Playoff berths have been decided in Districts 24-5A and 24-4A, and the eight qualifiers can finally look ahead to the second season.
In 24-5A, Ball clinched its third straight district championship with an 84-76 victory at runner-up Clear Springs, and the Tors put it away by outscoring the Chargers 30-26 in a wide-open fourth quarter.
Ball meets Fort Bend Travis, while Clear Springs takes on Elkins in the bi-district round early next week.
Clear Creek and Clear Brook will also represent 24-5A in the postseason.
La Marque captured its fourth consecutive 24-4A crown a couple of weeks ago and gets El Campo in the first round, while second-place Friendswood meets Foster in bi-district.
Texas City ended up third and Dawson finished fourth, thanks to Brazosport beating Manvel 57-55 in a league finale.
