Youth football club reports $16,000 missing
A youth football club filed a theft report with League City police Tuesday, asking investigators to figure out what happened to $16,000.
League City Police Lt. Bruce Whitten said the League City 49ers' case will be investigated, but it hadn't been assigned to a detective by Wednesday morning.
The non-profit organization has been trying get the club's old president and new treasurer to meet with an independent certified public accountant to discuss the accounting discrepancy, Whitten said.
"It looked like they had a change in the board members and the new board members said, 'I think there's something wrong here,' " Whitten said. "They tried to get the old board members together, and they couldn't figure out what was wrong."
Since late last year, there have been questions about the finances of the club and how it will pay overdue bills. Its financial records used to be accessible online but were taken down last month, Whitten said.
I guess the books are messed up is the short of it," he said. They're trying to get the problem rectified."
