Friendswood happy with Twitter start

Friendswood is a long ways from having more than 4 million followers on Twitter like Ashton Kutcher, Britney Spears and Ellen DeGeneres, but the city is encouraged by the 80 people who've signed up for city tweets so far.
Friendswood launched its user name of FriendswoodCity," on Jan. 26, and its Twitter page can be viewed here. Like other area cities, it uses Twitter to publicize things like council meeting agendas and community events.
As of Tuesday morning, the city had 80 followers.
That's just the people who have Twitter accounts," city spokesman Nick Haby said. We believe that there are probably many more out there that don't have Twitter accounts and who just check the page. But if there's even a few that we are reaching exclusively on Twitter then it's been worth it."
Haby said the city's presence on Twitter has been beneficial.
We're reaching a group of people that perhaps we never reached before, which is a good thing," he said.
