Boy Scouts throw 100th birthday bash
Getting ready for the Scout Expo in honor of Scouting's 100th anniversary, Ryan Diaz, 8, Tenderfoot,
The Bay Area Council Boy Scouts of America and its scouts in League City and Friendswood are throwing a party to celebrate 100 years of scouting.
The centennial blowout will include a 5K fun run and activities like archery, BB gun shooting, rock climbing, rope-making and cooking. Coast Guard boats, vintage cars and other exhibits are planned as well. Dozens of scouting units have signed up to host activities and booths.
Local leaders at the event will include U.S. Rep. Pete Olson, state Rep. Craig Eiland and Galveston County Judge Jim Yarbrough, along with athletes and other community representatives.
When: 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20. The fun run starts at 8 a.m., with opening ceremonies scheduled for 10 a.m. Fireworks begin at 7 p.m.
Where: Moody Gardens on Galveston Island.
Cost: It's free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to bring canned goods to support a council food drive.
