More than two years after a drunken driver hit one of Camino South's entryways on El Dorado Boulevard, its neighborhood association has come up with the funds for a fix.
The $15,000 entryway at Thunderbay will be under construction over the next few weeks thanks in part to a $3,000 grant from the city of Houston. The Clear Lake City Community Association plans to remove one of the signs, resurface the other and renovate the landscaping.
Leslie Alvarez, general manager for the community association, said the association hadn't been able to afford insurance on the old signs, so the crash a couple years ago wasn't covered. The matching grant from the city helped.
"We were very fortunate to be approved and are very grateful for the financial assistance this program is giving the association," Alvarez said.
The association still wants to replace other entryways that have deterioriated over the years, but that's been delayed by pending litigation with a sign vendor who has gone out of business, she said.
