An 18-year-old Friendswood resident turned himself into police Tuesday to face charges that he struck a woman with his SUV after an argument over a cell phone.
Friendswood police said Jonathan Hammond is charged with a felony count of aggravated assault in connection with the Jan. 25 incident.
Police said Hammond had been arguing with Heritage Park resident Brittiany Yuchnewicz, 20, around 4 a.m. in the 1800 block of Deepwood. Police weren't called to the scene but later determined she had been standing behind his 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer, banging on the window and demanding that he return her cell phone when he backed the SUV into her.
The victim showed up at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center and was later taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment of a broken leg and fractured pelvis.
She was released from the hospital last weekend, and a warrant for Hammond's arrest was issued Tuesday. He turned himself in Tuesday evening.
Hammond was in the Friendswood jail until he could be transferred to the Galveston County Jail. His bond has been set at $40,000.
