Seabrook library to break ground Feb. 19
This time around, chances are good the groundbreaking ceremony for the new $4.87 million Evelyn Meador Branch Library will take place as advertised.
The event is be held at noon on Friday, Feb. 19, at the site of the Seabrook's old library at 2400 N. Meyer Road. It's been closed since Hurricane Ike flooded it in September 2008.
The library's last groundbreaking ceremony was in October. To the stunned dismay of those who turned out, Harris County only considered the event a plan unveiling" and Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Sylvia Garcia announced the county did not have the money to actually build it. Less than three weeks later, however, Harris County Commissioners Court came through with funding.
Now the county expects construction to start Feb. 15 and take a year, according to a letter sent to Seabrook Mayor Gary Renola by Garcia. The new library should open in April 2011.
