Shuttle replica arrives for 'Shuttlebration'
A full-size space shuttle replica will arrive at Johnson Space Center on June 1, kicking off "Shuttlebration Weekend" to celebrate a new era of space exploration, outreach and education.
According to the press release, Richard Allen, president of Space Center Houston, stated, "NASA’s space shuttle changed the way we all think about space, making it more accessible, understandable and useful. It is our intent to continue that legacy with this exciting new attraction, which will offer a one-of-a-kind visitor experience that will engage, educate and inspire the next generation of explorers."
The replica will arrive by barge in the afternoon at the NASA Road 1 dock in Clear Lake. A free street party will be held between the dock and the Nassau Bay Hilton Hotel.
On June 3, the shuttle replica will be moved to Space Center Houston in a three-hour trek down NASA Road 1. A free public celebration will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the center, located at 1601 Nasa Parkway, Houston. It will feature family oriented activities.
Once the shuttle is installed, the public can go inside to get a behind-the-scenes look at life in a space shuttle.
