Guard those picnic tables! A thief took one
Anyone seen a missing picnic table and dog chain in League City?
Both were stolen on Friday between 7:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. from the backyard of a home in the 2200 block of Waxwing Drive, according to League City police.
People will steal anything," League City Police Chief Mike Jez said. Nothing surprises me anymore. Some of the stuff people steal is just crazy. You think why would they take that? Why? It's like people stealing Christ decorations. Why? I guess because it's there."
The return of the stolen picnic table and dog chain to the owner is unlikely unless she inscribed her driver's license number or some other kind of identification on the items, Jez said.
Oftentimes we do recover stolen property of that type," he said. For example, we catch a crook and the crook wants to get everything cleared up so he can cop a plea and get it done. He'll say, `I stole this and I stole that, but I don't really remember where, but it was over in this part of town.' Because there's no identifiers on the property, oftentimes we never get the property back to the right owner because there's no way of tracing it."
