Lady Mustangs kick off softball season
Samantha Sandridge's three-run, seventh-inning home run gave the Friendswood High School Lady Mustangs softball team a 6-3 season-opening win over Clear Brook.
Friendswood was trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning and tied the game with a two-run double by Lauren Massar and a run-scoring triple by Rylie Kohls.
The team then lost its next two games, 4-3 against Texas City in district play, and 11-6 to Dickinson.
In their next game, the Lady Mustangs scored five runs in the seventh inning for a 5-4 comeback victory over Fort Bend Travis. Jackie Dubcak scored the winning hit after Samantha Sandridge hit a three-run triple to tie the game.
Next, Friendswood defeated Bay City, 9-0, with Lauren Massar pitching a one-hitter with seven strikeouts.
