Scam targets elderly women
An apparent scam artist has been targeting elderly women and pulling at their heartstrings in an attempt to get their money.
Police say an elderly woman received a telephone call from a man pretending to be her grandson and stating that while on vacation in Trinidad, he was involved in some kind of accident and needed her help to stay out of jail. The man claimed he needed $2,500 to $3,000 wired to him through Western Union immediately or he would be locked up.
Two other elderly women reported receiving the same or similar phone call, according to a police news release.
None of the women sent the caller any money, but some were planning to before family members intervened.
