A Clear Brook High School debating team is just one more victory away from an all-expense-paid trip to New York City for the finals of a national contest on international public policy.
The question they're tackling: "The United Nations should substantially increase humanitarian assistance for persons living in poverty."
More than 230 high schools have been competing in the Bickel & Brewer / New York University International Public Policy Forum, and the team from Brook learned over winter break that it's one of only 16 still in the running.
If the Brook team beats Suncoast Community High School from Riviera Beach, Fla., in the next round, it will be one of the final eight teams facing off in a written and oral debate at New York University in April. The winners will take home $5,000 for their school and $5,000 for the team.
For the last two years, Bellaire High School has won the top prize.
Stay tuned . . .
