Bay Area Alliance hosts conference on prescription drug abuse
The Prescription Drug Advisory Committee of the Bay Area Alliance will be holding a conference to share information about the dangers of prescription drug abuse at the Friendswood Community Church, 2821 W. Parkwood Ave. in Friendswood, March 1 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The Bitter Pill To Swallow Conference will discuss the problem from the community level as well as a nationwide perspective with special guest speakers. Speakers include Dr. Hal Crossley, an internationally recognized expert on pharmacology; Jane Maxwell, Ph.D., a research scientist at the University of Texas in Austin; Jon D. Thompson, M.S., DABAT, Southeast Texas Poison Center; Sharnett Latimore, diversion program manager, Drug Enforcement Administration; and Officer John Kowal, Houston Police Department, according to the press release.
According to the press release, some topics that will be covered include the pathophysiology of prescription drug abuse, the latest in federal regulations and controlled substances, statewide drug trends in Texas, current issues in the greater Houston area and what the partners of the Prescription Drug Advisory Committee are doing to address the problems in the community and how local citizens can be involved.
