Santa Fe VFW to host free legal clinic for veterans
Veterans who need legal help can visit a free clinic in Santa Fe in Galveston County from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday, Feb. 25.
The service is provided by The Veterans Legal Initiative, a coalition of local bar associations that serves 350,000 veterans in Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Hardin, Harris, Jefferson, Liberty, Montgomery, Orange, San Jacinto, Walker and Waller counties.
Any veteran or spouse of a deceased veteran can get help from a volunteer attorney in such matters as family, wills and probate, consumer, real estate and tax law, and disability and veterans benefits. Veterans who need ongoing representation and who qualify will be assigned a pro bono attorney to handle their case.
The clinic will be at VFW Post 5400. No appointment is necessary.
The clinic is co-sponsored with the Galveston County Bar Association in conjunction with the Houston Bar Foundation's Veterans Legal Initiative.
Veterans can also seek legal advice at weekly Friday afternoon clinics at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center and Saturday clinics in Jefferson and Fort Bend counties. A schedule of upcoming Saturday clinics throughout the 14-county area is posted at www.hba.org.
For details, call the Houston Bar Foundation at 713-759-1133, the Jefferson County Bar Association at 409-835-8647 or Fort Bend Lawyers Care at 281-239-0015.
VFW Post 5400 is at 11230 Highway 6 in Santa Fe.
