City awards street and drainage contract
Mar-Con, LLC was awarded at $1.6 million contract by the Shoreacres City Council for street and drainage work to begin March 5.
The city's streets that were damaged by storms will be replaced with concrete surfaces, and culverts in the area will be increased in size to promote better storm drainage. All work is to be completed by December.
The repairs will call for a portion of Bayou Drive and the west side of Taylor Bayou between Shore Acres Boulevard and Heron Park will be closed to traffic as it will be used by the construction company.
Repairs will begin with West Country Club in the area north of Shore Acres Boulevard and North Country Club east to Centre Avenue.
The second phase of the repair will be on Centre Avenue in the area from Shore Acres Boulevard north to North County Club.
The repair work will alternate from one side of the road to the other so that local traffic will always have access to its homes.
There will be five phases to the repair work and will include portions of Bayou Drive, South Country Club, East Country Club and Oakdale Street. Two additional street and drainage contracts are pending and could be awarded later this year with grant approval.
Before the work begins CenterPoint Energy will replace the gas main in the street right-of-way. The city will also install a large water main in anticipation of water system improvements.
