A wish come true: The Naked Cupcake
One of my goals for Clear Lake in 2010 was for someone to open a cupcake bakery. I started doing a little research and found out about The Naked Cupcake. So I took one for the team, and headed over there with the kids on New Year's Eve.
It took me a while to find the place, because I was looking for a "Naked Cupcake" sign and there was not one to be found. It is actually inside the Coffee Culture shop on FM 270 between 518 and 96. That's League City.
I am not a coffee drinker, so this will focus on the cupcakes!
After convincing the kids that there truly were cupcakes to be found in this coffee house and that I wasn't playing a cruel joke, we made our way inside. The decor is so unique and cozy. For seating options you can choose between the bar, comfy oversized furniture or one of a few little niches. My kids chose a plain little niche with a picnic sized table. After they devoured their cupcakes they checked out the other niches and found one with a bunch of pillows for floor seating and one with a bunch of toys.
The Naked Cupcake is different because you get to choose the cupcake and the icing, then if you are so inclined you can add sprinkles from their ample supply.
The owner, Angela Fanos, told me she spent a lot of time studying the booming cupcake industry before settling on her unique concept. Not only are the cupcakes naked, but she never refridgerates them so they are more than fresh.
On the day we indulged, she only had lemon cupcakes, but there were a variety of options for frosting. (Generally there are 4-5 options a day, but since we were there on a holiday the choices were limited) Child 1 and I opted for lemon frosting and Child 2 opted for the buttercream. Both kids of course went for the sprinkles on their creations. I am not one for acronyms but OMG these were amazing!!!!! My kids were finished in less than 2 minutes and these cupcakes are oversized!
We were well taken care of as well. After turning down offers of milk or juice we were presented with a bottle of water on the house to split between us. Also after making sure the kids got to the table without dropping anything, I was the one who overturned my cupcake onto the table knocking off most of my frosting. My mess was cleaned up and my frosting re-applied with a smile!
After chatting a while I learned that she is planning on creating designer cupcakes all kinds of themes in the coming months. They also host mom's group events, ladies wine tasting and birthday parties.
So my advice to you is to run don't walk to The Naked Cupcake and indulge yourself in an amazing treat and a unique ambiance.
