Galveston Bay Foundation celebrates children's art calendar winners
Teachers, principals, students and families gathered Jan.18 to celebrate the 14 winners of 2012 Children's Art Contest presented by the Galveston Bay Foundation at the Sims Bayou Nature Center on Sims Bayou, 3997 River Drive.
More than 440 students from 10 different schools took part in the illustration contest, which challenged students to draw the people, plants or animals you can find around Galveston Bay.
The following are the 2012 contest winners and their schools: Kyndal Cook (San Jacinto Elementary), Larry Dugat (Barbers Hill Intermediate), Kooper Emerson (Barbers Hill Intermediate), Emily Fullen (S.F. Austin Elementary), Alexandra Gonzalez (S.F. Austin Elementary), Denton Hargrave (Barbers Hill Intermediate),Ashley Hoffman (Landolt Elementary), Ashley Kim (Grace School),Lizeth Mendoza (Travis Elementary), Destiney Platt (S.F. Austin Elementary), Jade Salinas (Landolt Elementary), Keyma Sanchez (Barbers Hill Intermediate), Steve Torrez (Highlands Elementary) and Safphire Williams (Landolt Elementary).
Celebrating it's 25th anniversary, the mission of the Galveston Bay Foundation is to preserve, protect and enhance the natural resources of the Galveston Bay estuarine system and its tributaries for present users and for posterity, according to the press release.
