League City mayor gives State of the Community address

League City Mayor Tom Paulissen highlighted education and economic growth during his 2012 State of the Community address.

"We have made great progress, but we can do more," said Paulissen during the address, according to a League City news release. The mayor noted League City, which has been incorporated for 50 years, is the most affluent and populated city in Galveston County.

He discussed the "Leaders Make Readers" program, a mentoring initiative in League City schools that helps traditionally underserved populations excel in reading.

He also addressed League City's water supply concerns and offered solutions, such as conservation, use of grey water for irrigation and acquiring a new water supply, according to the release.

Regarding economic growth in League City, the mayor highlighted establishing Interstate 45 as an entertainment district, a well-educated workforce and residents' disposable incomes.
