Blocker Middle School holds science fair
Blocker Middle School, 500 14th Ave. North in Texas City, held its first-ever science fair for seventh- and eighth-grade students on Jan. 12.
Sherri Simmons and Pamela Montalbano acted as coordinators.
The students students were given a timeline in October, then given free reign to create their projects.
"If they asked an opinion or question for help, I would intervene, otherwise it was 'Work on your own and let's see what you have learned,'" Montalbano said in a press release.
The fair included 123 participates in seven categories, including chemistry, physics, engineering, botany/zoology, health/medical, behavioral and biochemistry.
Those students who placed first, second or third will show their projects at Galveston County Science Fair on Saturday, Feb. 4 at Moody Gardens.
