Shriners Hospitals for Children Galveston Joins Texas Medical Center as 50th member institution
The board of directors of the Texas Medical Center approved the Shriners Hospital for Children-Galveston’s for membership on Dec. 14.
The Shriners Hospital for Children makes them the 50th member to the Texas Medical Center, nonprofit organizations devoted to patient care, research, education and prevention.
Members are required to participate in the various Texas Medical Center councils to help with collaboration and communication amongst institutions.
“The addition of Shriners Hospital for Children-Galveston to the Texas Medical Center compliments our collection of world-renowned institutions,” said Richard E. Wainerdi, Texas Medical Center president and CEO, in a press release. “Shriners Hospitals for Children-Galveston serves children from all over the world and is the only facility in the area that specializes in treating burned children. This could lead to enhanced collaboration among our institutions, which is key to providing the best patient care and research possible.”
The hospital opened its doors in 1966 as the first pediatric burn center in the Shriners Hospitals health care system.
