Taylor Lake Village bans parking in yard
Parking in the yard is no longer allowed in Taylor Lake Village.
This week City Council approved the amendment of a city ordinance that makes it illegal. Violators can be fined up to $500 per day, he said.
The city had received many complaints from residents about the parking of vehicles in front and side yards, City Councilman Jon Powell said. The issue was discussed last month at a City Council meeting.
"The neighborhoods began to look lousy," Powell said.
Yet residents can appeal to the city about getting a temporary waiver in certain instances, Powell said.
"That's if you've got construction going on or something that is clearly causing you not to park in a normal parking spot," he said.
Powell said he does not expect tickets for parking in the yard to be issued immediately.
"We don't really enforce these things until things get pretty serious," he said. "If there's a complaint, we'll send a cop around, and he'll tell somebody to move the car. If it doesn't happen in a few days, they'll probably issue a citation then."
