Kemah Boardwalk to honor military with weekend celebration

The Kemah Boardwalk will show support for the United States Armed Forces with a Salute to Military Service, Nov. 4 through Nov. 6.

Throughout the weekend, the Boardwalk will be a walking tour of the United States Army, Navy and Coast Guard. Active military members, veterans and their families will receive special discounts at all Boardwalk outlets.

Visitors will see displays and can participate in interactive tours and various demonstrations of our country's military branches and their equipment. Military vehicles will be displayed for guests to admire and browse.

The event will begin at 3 p.m. on Nov. 4 with a parade welcoming wounded veterans and their families at the Kemah Community Center. Live entertainment, including a performance by the Dean Seltzer Band, will begin at 7 p.m. on the Hotel Plaza Stage.

The Main Event will take place on Nov. 5 and will begin at 11 a.m. with various activites. At 1 p.m. the NFL's Texans Cheerleaders will greet guests at the Bardford Plaza. Other activites will include a Coast Guard Air-to-Sea demonstration and the chance to see new Army and Navy recruits sworn in. There will also be a freefall performance by the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Jump Team, who will meet fans and pose for pictures.

Saturday's festivities will conclude with a performance by musician Darryl Worley and a fireworks display.

The celebration will continue on Nov. 6 with a P-51 Mustang flyover at noon and a country music performance by Junior Gordon, beginning at 1 p.m.
