Gilmore Elementary students help county taste-test cafeteria food

Students at Gilmore Elementary sampled prospective cafeteria foods from 47 vendors at Harris County Department of Education's Food Commodity Processing Expo on Oct. 11.

The Gulf Coast Cooperative at HCDE gives school districts the opportunity to purchase competitively bid food products collectively for better buying power.

New federal laws currently being shaped focus on healthier food choices reflected in some of this year's offerings such as whole-wheat macaroni-and-cheese, vegetable fried brown rice and low-fat cheeses.
