Construction wraps up on Bay Area Boulevard
With construction on Bay Area Boulevard wrapping up just in time for holiday shopping, Webster officials are already noticing what a difference the roadwork has made.
The flow is much better," City Manager Wayne Sabo said.
The project between I-45 and Highway 3, a corridor leading to Clear Lake's retail epicenter, started in August and is now substantially complete.
The improvements include the installation of a traffic signal at Bay Area Boulevard and Live Oak Street, the modification of median openings to allow for left-turn-only lanes, the addition of right-turn lanes at Texas Avenue and at Gatebrook Drive, and the expansion of some existing left-turn lanes. Prior to the improvements, motorists often got stuck behind vehicles waiting to turn left.
Everything's a lot better," Sabo said. People are now able to get to designated turn lanes and not block the big lanes."
The $551,000 "Bay Area Traffic Mitigation Project" was paid for by Webster and Harris County.
