Trailing 14-7 at halftime, Clear Springs senior left guard Surosh Avandsalehi made an appeal to his teammates.
He gave a great speech saying we had to find some way to win," Clear Springs coach Clint Hartman said. He didn't want it to be his last game."
The Chargers (10-2) did come back to beat Pasadena Memorial 26-14 last week and now face Spring Branch Memorial (9-3) in a 5A-III Division II regional playoff at 7 p.m. Saturday at Galena Park ISD Stadium.
Hartman also talked about a huge fourth-down stop by free safety Devin Walker in the second half when the Chargers outscored Pasadena Memorial 19-0.
Our defense vowed not to let them score in the second half and they came through," Hartman said. It was just a great effort by our kids and a tremendous job by our coaching staff."
The Memorial Mustangs downed Kingwood 13-3 last week after beating Seven Lakes 27-17 in a postseason opener.
Clear Springs held off Elkins 28-26 two weeks ago in the first playoff game for the second-year program.
The Clear Springs-Memorial winner meets Katy (11-1) or La Porte (8-3) in the Region III finals next week.
