Friendswood symphonic band competes at state level
Over the summer, the Friendswood Junior High symphonic band competed at the state level in the Texas Music Educators Association Honor Band competition.
The competition consisted of three levels, at the end of which FJH had advanced to the state level — something they last did in 2004, according to a press release. Bands submitted CDs to five judges for the contest.
At the regional level in June, FJH competed against eight other bands and was ranked second. The ranking allowed them to move to the area-level competition, where they again placed second out of 28 bands representing seven areas of the state. The final level, state, was held in July. FJH tied for ninth place of the 14 bands that competed.
“The entire band staff, Sarah Bennett, Mark Urbina and I, are extremely proud of the hard work and extra hours the students of the symphonic band put in the past semester,” Robert Munoz, FJH band teacher, said in a press release.
