Clear Lake welcomes back Fort Hood survivor
A Clear Lake High School graduate who survived the Nov. 5 massacre at Fort Hood got a kiss on the cheek from President Obama and the promise of free haircuts and highlights for life from a Clear Lake hair salon.
Army Specialist Dayna Ferguson, 21, told the Bay Area Citizen that the support she's received while recuperating at her parents' house in Brook Forest has been overwhelming, but the trauma of being shot three times lingers:
Soldiers are taught not to look at their injuries, she said, a tactic that can keep them from going into shock. Because of her training, Ferguson did not lose consciousness and said she remembers the entire incident. It's still scary," she said.
