Democratic Women to discuss wetlands preservation
The Bay Area Association of Democratic Women (BAAD Women) will host its monthly meeting on Thursday, June 16, at the Bay Area Community Center.
Charlotte Wells, executive director of Galveston Baykeeper, will discuss the importance of wetlands and how people can protect and improve the water quality of Galveston Bay.
The Galveston Bay system has experienced a significant loss of wetlands -- more than 35,000 acres during the past 50 years -- and wetland loss is continuing at a rapid rate.
The meeting begins with social networking at 6:30 p.m. followed by the program at 7 p.m. The meeting is free and open to the public. Guests and new members are welcome.
The Bay Area Community Center, in Clear Lake Park, is located at 5002 NASA Road 1.
BAAD Women hosts monthly meetings that feature speakers who discuss issues of interest to the community.
