Water line along State Hwy. 3 shut down
Webster, Friendswood and League City officials are asking residents to conserve water until they can repair a 42-inch water line that began leaking Wednesday.
The line runs along State Highway 3 from the Southeast Water Purification Plant, which the cities share with the City of Houston. "There's a leak on it just north of El Dorado Boulevard," says Shannon Hicks, Webster's Director of Public Works. "Last night at 7 o'clock, the City of Houston shut down that portion of the line."
Hicks says crews have yet to dig down and decide how bad the break in the line is and how to repair it. For now, Webster has another water line and well that should keep the water on for everybody, but Hicks asks residents to avoid any unnecessary water use.
League City spokesperson Kristi Wyatt says in a press release that League City will have lower water pressure during the shutdown, which is expected to last until at least Thursday evening.
The City of Friendswood also says in an email alert that it expects low water pressure until the line is repaired.
