Boater injured in Clear Creek crash

A man was injured Monday when he a boat he was riding in ran up an embankment on Clear Creek and hit a tree, Friendswood police say.

The crash happened at about 10 a.m. near Polly Ranch Park, says Friendswood Police spokesperson Officer Lisa Price. "There is that bend in the creek, which kind of gives it a blind curve," Price says. "That area of Clear Creek is not very wide, and it's not very well-traveled."

The passenger, a 28-year-old Dickinson man, was hospitalized with a minor leg injury, Price says. The driver, a  28-year-old League City man, told police he'd been traveling at about 25 MPH when he saw a wakeboarder in
the water and swerved.

"There will not be any charges filed," Price says. "The driver of the boat sacrificed his boat to avoid hitting the person in the water."

Police say that alcohol was not involved. The boat sustained significant damage and at one point took on water, according to a police report.
