Friendswood High wins state academic championship

Friendswood High School (FHS) recently won its sixth consecutive University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Academic Championship, its seventh in the last eight years.

The championship title is earned via total points scored in both individual categories and teams. In the State contest, 63 schools earned points. Friendswood earned 114 and first place, with Dawson High School in second place with 75 points and Highland Park was in third with 65 points.

In Computer Applications, Winston Wu won first place with Noah Kessler in second place.

In the Computer Science category, Wu won first place again with Kyle Wiley in fifth place and Kessler in sixth.

Simone Crotteau took fourth place in News Writing.

Chris Hailey earned fifth place in Poetry Interpretation.

In Spelling and Vocabulary, Kaitlin Gruener was awarded first place and Noah Kessler won fifth place.

The Computer Science Team received first place.

The Spelling and Vocabulary Team took first place.
