Friendswood 'academic octathlon' students excel in competition

The Friendswood academic octathlon team won numerous awards at a recent competition in Katy.

In the individual awards category, three levels of students won awards.

Varsity students: David Snowden took first place in language and literature, music, art and economics. He received first place overall in varsity. Jake Bullington earned second place in math.

Scholastic students: Three Friendswood team members placed. Sam Lu won first place in math, Dylan Zawila claimed third place in math and Sean Lipscomb captured third place in super quiz.    

Honor students: Bryan Holcombe was awarded third place in social science, economics and math. Derek Janak took third in math.

Team awards: The Friendswood team earned second place in super quiz and fourth place overall.

The FISD team consisted of Jenny Baglio, Derek Janak, Bryan Holcombe, Sean Lipscomb, Dylan Zawila, Sam Lu, Jake Bullington, Nadjezhda Laird, David Snowden, Maddie Ehrlich, Bobby McDonald, Kristen Ryan, Alex Hansen and Nathan Tat.
