Kingwood, Clear Lake residents accused of filing false police report
A Harris County resident is suing his ex-wife, who lives in Kingwood, as well as his mother-in-law, from Clear Lake, after, he says, they falsely accused him of criminal activity in order to get the upper hand during divorce proceedings.
Steve McAler filed a lawsuit on May 5 in the Harris County District Court against Kingwood resident Karen Christopher and Clear Lake resident Wanda McGlaun citing slander, libel, intentional infliction of emotional distress and slander per se.
McAler says that in 2010, he moved out of his home and into his parents' house in The Woodlands because his wife, Christopher, wanted a divorce. Shortly thereafter, on May 7, 2010, Christopher and her mother, McGlaun, filed a false police report against Christopher accusing him of criminal assault, according to the brief.
McAler alleges that Christopher and her mother accused him of the assault to keep their house during the divorce proceedings. Even though the charges were dropped, McAler says news of his arrest spread quickly through the Kingwood area and his church, causing him severe emotional anguish.
McAler is seeking actual and exemplary damages, as well as court costs. He is being represented in the case by Conroe attorney Dale Trimble.
