Playoff planner: Springs and Friendswood

There are those who breathe a secret sigh of relief when the frenetic fall football season ends for their favorite high school teams. Think parents of kids in marching band and drill team.
Then there are those who are drawn like moths to the bright stadium lights. Those would be the football players, their parents and the true fans who'd choose aluminum stadium benches and live drama over soft couches and reruns of House. Plus teen-agers looking for something to do on a weekend night with no homework.
For those wanting to cheer on the home team once again, playoffs begin this weekend. Clear Lake's only two contenders:
FRIDAY
Lamar Consolidated (2 seed, 4-5) vs. Friendswood(1 seed, 7-3). 7:30 p.m. at Friendswood.
SATURDAY
Elkins (2 seed, 8-2) vs. Clear Springs (1 seed, 8-2). 6 p.m. at League City's CCISD Veterans Memorial Stadium.
