Clear Creek ISD debate teams sweep district competition

The Clear Creek ISD debate teams recently swept the UIL District Cross Examination meet held at Brazoswood High School.

Of the teams competing, two teams from both Clear Brook High School and Clear Lake High School were named as the top four teams in District 24-5A.

The first place team of Hunter Bodiford and Daniel Hogg from Clear Brook will compete at the state meet at the University of Texas in March. Joining them will be the second place team from Clear Lake, made up of Kiersten Strachan and Albert Yau.

Placing third, and serving as the primary alternate, was the Clear Lake team of Romil Patel and Suriya Koothan. Placing fourth was the team of Kelly Hogg and Eric Stone from Clear Brook, who will serve as the second alternate to the state meet.

Clear Lake also sent 11 students to the Seven Lakes High School Speech and Debate competition. The cross-examination team of Shree Deshpande and Albert Yau advanced to the semi-finals and placed third overall.  They garnered final Texas Forensic Association points necessary to attend the state competition in March at Flower Mound High School.  

The team of Sina Ghodsi and Akil Udawala advanced to the quarterfinals in cross-examination debate. Darienne Hartman placed second overall in Poetry Interpretation.  She will be representing Clear Lake at the state competition in Poetry.
