Volcano eruptions around Clear Lake
HoustonGrows.com'sa Gulf Coast Greenie blogger is raising the alarm about a dangerous phenomenon she's noticed in her Clear Lake neighborhood: "hot volcanos."
In masterplanned communities like Clear Lake City, of course, it's common to see homes whose landscaping consists of two or three pine trees stuck in a yard of St. Augustine grass.
So the practice of raking up pine needles and piling them up at the base of these trees is common around here. Gulf Coast Greenie, however, is horrified to see tall pyramids of "hot mulch" under those trees.
She goes on to explain what exactly that means and why it's such a bad idea, especially with the pine bark beetle threatening trees around Houston.
